Mental Health Awareness Week

Kia ora bloggers!

This blog post is about what I like to do to keep mentally healthy.

I hope you enjoy it!

THE JOY OF FLIPBOOKING

One of the activities I like to do to help my mental health is making flipbooks. A flipbook is a booklet with a number of pictures that change gradually as you flip through the pages. When you flip through the pages quickly the pictures appear to move.

I enjoy making flipbooks because I feel happy while I'm using my lightpad to draw the gradually changing pictures and I feel a sense of accomplishment and joy when I view the finished product.

When making flipbooks I lie on the ground in a quiet room and draw the first picture on the first page. Then I put that picture on top of my lightpad, place the second page on top, and draw the second picture slightly offset from the first. Then I repeat the process over and over until the flipbook comes to its conclusion.

Sometimes the flipbook process doesn’t work out and I throw the flipbook in the rubbish bin which can be annoying and frustrating. However, normally my flipbook creations are successful so the positives outweigh the negatives.

I love to share my flipbooks with my family and see their reaction as the story unfolds.

One day I plan to share my flipbooks with the world through my YouTube channel - MJA Kids Drawing Club. Next time you are feeling down try flipbooking to improve your mood :)
